Sandra L Skaluba

March 16, 1943 — May 14, 2025

Alpena

Sandra L. Skaluba, affectionately known as Sandi, was a beloved figure whose heart and spirit touched countless lives before she departed from this world on May 14, 2025, in Alpena, Michigan. Born on March 16, 1943, to the late Vernon and Dortha (Day) Martin in Detroit, Michigan, Sandi was a woman of remarkable warmth and unfathomable kindness.

Throughout her life, Sandi dedicated over 30 years to Alpena General Hospital, where she poured her compassion into every interaction, retiring in 1999. Her commitment to serving others was further exemplified by her 12 years at the local shelter, where she continued to uplift those around her until her retirement in 2014. She approached every challenge with grace, earning a reputation as a caring and compassionate woman who will be sorely missed by all who knew her.

Sandi was not only a devoted caretaker but also a cherished family member. She found immense joy in spending time with her children and grandchildren, weaving moments of love and laughter into the fabric of her family’s life. As a proud member of the Red Hat Society and a long-time member of Resurrection Lutheran Church, she found community in her passions and engagement with others. Her marriage to Edward J. Skaluba on May 12, 1978, at Long Lake Chapel in Alpena, was a highlight of her life—one filled with beautiful memories that would endure even after his passing in 1992. Together they lived out a lifelong passion in owning and operating Sandi's Ceramics.

She leaves behind her loving children, Julie (Ed) LeBlanc- Aal, Shawn (Jennifer) Poirier, and Jodi Poirier Headley, alongside devoted stepchildren, Dennis (Barbara) Skaluba, Debbie (Michael) Steber, and Randy Skaluba. Sandi's legacy continues through her seven grandchildren, several step-grandchildren, and three great grandchildren who will carry forward her spirit of kindness and love. Among those left to cherish her memory is her caring companion, Michael Chadkewicz.

Sandi's warmth will be remembered and honored at Resurrection Lutheran Church in Alpena, where family and friends are invited to pay their respects during visitation on May 23, 2025, from 10:00 AM to 1:00 PM, followed by a funeral service commencing at 1:00 PM. She will be laid to rest in a place of peace at Evergreen Cemetery, with interment following at 2:00 PM.

Her journey on this earth may have concluded, but the echo of her laughter, the warmth of her smile, and the depth of her compassion will remain etched in the hearts of all who had the privilege of knowing her. Sandi Skaluba's spirit will continue to shine brightly in the lives she touched, serving as a gentle reminder of the beauty that exists in kindness and the strength of familial bonds.
