Philip Adonis Heath

December 7, 1951 — August 9, 2024

Alpena

Philip Adonis Heath, affectionately known as "Heater", passed away on August 9, 2024, surrounded by his loved ones in Alpena, Michigan. Born on December 7, 1951, in the same town he would call home throughout his life, Philip lived a life filled with dedication, service, and love.

In his professional life, Philip Heath devoted over 40 years to the city of Alpena and Alpena Township, including serving as the director of the Department of Public Works. His commitment to his community extended beyond his professional duties as he generously volunteered his time officiating in Football, Baseball, Basketball, and Softball games for over 30 years at all levels. Additionally, Philip proudly served his country in the United States Marines during the Vietnam War, embodying the values of honor and duty.

Philip's impact went far beyond his professional and military service. He was a man of many passions, finding joy in golfing, woodworking, fishing (especially his beloved trips to Canada), and the simple pleasures of cooking, tending to his garden, and feeding squirrels. However, his greatest source of happiness came from spending time with his family, especially his grandchildren, whom he adored, and watching them excel in sports. On July 24, 1971 Philip married the love of his life Susan Brousseau at St. Anne Catholic Church in Alpena.

Described as kind, caring, and generous, Philip Heath will be dearly missed by all who had the privilege of knowing him. His legacy lives on through his proudest accomplishments, which include his unwavering dedication to volunteering for organizations such as TBBA, Alpena Little League, McRae Park Association, and the Recreational Advisory Committee. Philip was also a proud supporter of The Alpena Boosters Club, leaving an indelible mark on his community through his selfless contributions.

Philip is survived by his loving wife, Susan, his children Cory (Tori) Heath, Kari (Wayne) Morgan, and Ned Heath, as well as his fourteen cherished grandchildren, Lauren (Ryan) Wirgau, Elizabeth McCumber, Samantha Trelfa, Hunter Morgan, Lanie Morgan, Ryan Heath, Ethan Heath, Austin (Belle) Heath, Collin Heath, Kaelyn Heath, Carson Heath, Gradin Heath, Gracelyn Heath, and Jackson Heath, three great-grandchildren, Oliver Hildreth, Jay Heath, and Elsie Heath. He is also survived by his brother Tom (Susan) Heath, sister Linda (Tim) Jones, and several nieces and nephews. Philip was predeceased by his parents, Ned and Ida Heath, and his brother, Ned Heath.
