Michael J. Chadkewicz born on May 10, 1942, went home to be with our Lord on February 15, 2026. He was born in Detroit, Michigan to Mike and Esther (Grezsiak) Chadkewicz. They moved to Alpena in 1947. Michael attended St. Mary’s School and then Catholic Central High School. Where he met his childhood sweetheart Rosemarie Nowak.
They were married August 3, 1962, at St. Anne Catholic Church. Michael entered the Army in March of 1966, after basic training he was stationed in Munich, Germany, where their first child was born. He was sent back to the States and honorably discharged in March of 1969.
The family then returned to Alpena, MI. where the rest of their four children were born. Mike was employed by Huron Portland Cement until 1984, Holy Cross Cemetery until 1994, and Wilbert Vault until the time of his retirement in 2004. He also worked part time at Karpus Hunter Funeral Home.
He was preceded in death by his parents, his first wife Rosemarie, his second wife Darlene, and his companion Sandi Skaluba.
Michael was a lifetime member of the VFW Post 2496 as well as “Cooties”. He was an avid sports fan and loved all Detroit Teams, Tigers, Lions, Red Wings, and Pistons. He was also an avid bowler.
He is survived by his children, Mary (James) Celaya, Julie (Todd) Sommerfield, Daniel (Vivien) Chadkewicz, Joseph (Holly Miller) Chadkewicz, adopted children, Marcus and Mikayla Prater, Stepdaughter Diane Prater, grandchildren, Nicholas, Stefany, Patrick, Joshua, Alysa, Wyatt, step granddaughter, Jackie, and great granddaughter Aaliyah. He was a beloved son, husband, father, and grandfather.
Visitation will take place at A.E. Ross Funeral Home on Thursday, February 26 from 4pm to 8pm. A funeral service will take place on Friday, February 27 at the funeral home starting at 10am with Deacon Mike Roy as celebrant. Interment will be at Holy Cross Cemetery immediately after the service. In lieu of flowers please consider a memorial contribution to Hospice of Michigan
