Alpena

Mary Ann Klee, born Mary Ann Detloff on March 5, 1940, in Alpena, Michigan, passed away on September 7, 2025, at the Medilodge of Greenview. With a heart brimming with love, she was a beacon of warmth and kindness, a devoted wife, mother, grandmother, sister, and friend whose presence touched the lives of many. On September 12, 1959 She married the love of her life, Richard Klee at St. Anne Catholic Church. They were married nearly 50 years until he preceded her in death in 2009.

A true homemaker at heart, Mary Ann devoted her life to ensuring that her family felt cherished and secure. Her nurturing spirit was evident in every facet of her life, as she consistently placed the needs of others above her own. Her devotion extended beyond her immediate family; her love and compassion were gifts she shared freely, resonating with all who had the privilege of knowing her.

Mary Ann had an unyielding adoration for all things apple related. Whether it was a simple pie baked with love or an afternoon spent picking apples, these moments brought her immense joy and created lasting memories with her family. Her laughter and spirit were often echoed in the orchards, leaving behind a legacy of sweet and cherished moments.

She is survived by her three loving children, Patricia (Lee) Hartman, Barbara (Robert) McConnell, and Robert (Vanessa) Klee, all of Alpena. Her life was further enriched by ten grandchildren: Ryan Hartman, Nick Hartman, Chris McConnell, Jessica Kelley, Kyle McConnell, Kelsie Manley, Robbie Klee, Leighlyn Klee, Linnessa Mellberg, and Lexxis Klee, along with twelve great-grandchildren, each of whom will carry a piece of her heart forward.

Mary Ann leaves behind her cherished siblings, Barbara Gibas of Bay City, and Paul Detloff of Alpena, whose memories of her will linger like the sweet scent of apples in the air.

Preceding Mary Ann in death were her beloved brothers, Donald, Leon, and Frank, as well as her sister, Rosemary. Together, they now rest in peace, bound by the love that transcends time and space.

Her memory will be celebrated at A.E. Ross Funeral Home in Alpena on Friday, September 12, 2025. Visitation will begin at 1:00 PM, followed by a Celebration of Life at 3:00 PM with Deacon Michael Roy officiating, and concluding with an inurnment at Holy Cross Cemetery at 3:45 PM.

Mary Ann Klee’s spirit will forever remain etched in the hearts of those who loved her. She was a gentle soul whose memory will echo through generations, reminding us all of the beauty of love, the joy of family, and the importance of nurturing those we hold dear. She will be dearly missed but forever remembered.
