Mary Kathleen Wisniewski

December 31, 1941 — October 16, 2022

Mary Kathleen (Kathy) Wisniewski (nee Marciniak), age 80, of Alpena, sadly passed away on October 16, 2022, at Besser Senior Living Community with her family by her side as she joined ‘the dad’ to spend her eternity. Kathy was born on December 31, 1941, in Flint, Michigan, to the late Leonard and Mary Ellen (Manion) Marciniak.

Kathy graduated from Catholic Central High School. On May 9, 1959, she married Donald J. Wisniewski. She worked in the lab at Alpena General Hospital while raising four children and went on to manage Gittleman’s Clothing Store. After her children were grown, she earned her nursing degree from North Central Michigan College in Petoskey, Michigan. She focused on geriatric care which was a perfect fit as she and her husband went on to own and operate Greenview Nursing Home in Alpena serving the community for many years. We miss them both very much and are so grateful every day that we were blessed with them as our parents.

Kathy had many wonderful friends in her beloved town of Alpena, where she lived her entire life. Kathy had a spunky sense of humor and leaves behind beautiful memories in the lives of those she touched. One of Kathy’s favorite quotes was “I cannot live without books.” Her passion was reading; she shared that enthusiasm with her book club and her children.

Kathy took pleasure in swimming with her pool pals at the Plaza Pool and traveling with her friends. She and Don also enjoyed traveling south in the spring and visiting their children in various states, taking in the fall colors, maybe stopping in at a casino here or there along the way.

Kathy was predeceased by her husband of 62 years, Donald. She is survived by her four daughters Debi Rybicki, Prudy (Jim) Blue, Anne (Brian) MacArthur, and Krystn Wallace, her brother, Ken (Karen) Marciniak, four grandchildren, Kirk MacArthur, Mitchell (Elizabeth) MacArthur, Brian (Tiffany) Cohen, and Jeff Cohen. Three great grandchildren, Noah, Emily and Jordan Cohen, brother-in-law, Norbert Wisniewski, and several nieces and nephews.

In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made in Kathy’s name to Hospice of Michigan (199 Long Rapids Road, Alpena MI 49707). We are forever grateful for the care, compassion, and kindhearted staff of both Hospice of Michigan and Besser Senior Living Community.

To celebrate her life, we will be gathering at Karpus Hunter & Ross Funeral Home on Friday, October 21, from 1:00 PM until the time of funeral service at 3:00 P.M. with Fr. Michael Lingaur as celebrant. Kathy’s final resting place will be at Holy Cross Cemetery. Online condolences may be registered at www.karpushuntercares.com
