Leonard S. Donajkowski, age 84, of Alpena, peacefully slipped away into Heaven on Monday, February 13, 2017, at the Mid-Michigan Medical Center of Alpena surrounded by his family.
Leonard was born on November 6, 1932, in Alpena, Michigan to the late Stephan and Joanne "Della" (Wieschowski) Donajkowski. Leonard served in the US Army tank armored division during the Korean War. He married Maureen Kluka on April 19, 1958, she preceded him in death on December 12, 1993. Leonard was a machinist for General Motors for 28 years, retiring in 1988. On September 15, 2001, he later married Mary (Dege) Losinski. Leonard was a member of St. Mary Catholic Church, and a former Eucharistic Minister. He was a member of the Knights of Columbus Third Degree, and coached youth baseball.
Leonard is survived by his wife of 15 years, Mary and his six children: Julie (Ralph) Butterfield of Bay City, MI; Leonard G. (Sondra) Donajkowski of Rhodes, MI; Mark Donajkowski of Ann Arbor, MI; John (Kay) Donajkowski of Munith, MI; Chris (Theresa) of Pinckney, MI; and Paul Donajkowski of Stockbridge, MI. His six step-children: Larry "Hev" (Nancy) Losinski, Terry (Judy) Losinski, Barry (Celina) Losinski, Perry (Kelly) Losinski, Cherylann (Edwin) Grillot, and Carolann (Don) Chojnacki. His 23 grandchildren; Chelsea (Victor Acosta Jr.) Butterfield, John James, Matt (Mallory McKimmey), Maureen, Connor, Ryan, and Gracelyn Donajkowski, Chelsea and Danielle Allen, Cheyenne and Shawn Butts, Sierra and Savannah Grillot, Tyler, Shaun, Alex, David, Marissa, Dani, and Alli Losinski, Emily (Clayton) Clemens, Megan Ohlrich, Ryan Widajewski, 4 great- grandchildren, two brothers Louis (Clara) Donajkowski of Alpena, MI; Raymond (Michelle) Donajkowski of Alpena, MI; his two sisters Rita Wetzel of Pinckney, MI; Mary (Stanley) Brandenburg of Pinconning, MI; three sister- in-laws Georgiana Donajkowski, Maxine Donajkowski, Janet Maida and his brother-in-law Gary (Karen) Kluka, along with several nieces and nephews.
He was preceded in death by three brothers, Clemens, Robert, and David Donajkowski along with four sisters Barbara, Virginia, Rose Bruski, Martha Swiecicki, and his step-daughter Roxann Losinski.
Family and friends will gather for visitation at Karpus-Hunter Funeral Home on Thursday, February 16, 2017, from 2 pm until the 8 pm, with a Parish Prayer Service at 7pm followed by Full Military Honors accorded by the V.F.W. Post 2496. Visitation will continue at St. Anne Catholic Church of All Saints Parish on Friday, February 17, 2017, from 10 am until the 11 am Mass of Christian Burial begins with Rev. Fr. Charles Donajkowski officiating.
Internment: St. Mary's Cemetery in Pinconning, MI; Mt. Forrest Township
In lieu of flowers memorials may be made to the Disabled American Veterans or Pied Piper of Alpena.
