Lawrence "Larry" Iler, a loving husband, father, grandfather, and brother passed away on July 4, 2024, in Alpena, Michigan. He was born on March 21, 1945, in Gaylord, Michigan to the late Harry and Ethel (Allen) Iler. Lawrence will be remembered not only for his various roles as a laborer in fields such as tinkering with cars, sawmill work, lawn maintenance, and custodial work but also for his vibrant personality and kind spirit.


Having graduated from Gaylord High School, Lawrence ventured into a diverse career that showcased his strong work ethic and willingness to learn. His passion for working with his hands extended beyond his professional life as he enjoyed gardening and exploring his interest in cars and models. His creativity knew no bounds as he constantly sought out new projects to immerse himself in. On December 26, 1966, Larry married the love of his life Anne Hilla at St. Mary Catholic Church in Alpena. They were married 51 Years until she preceded him in death in 2018


In addition to his professional talents and hobbies, Lawrence was known for his sense of humor and playful nature. He took pleasure in teasing those around him and brightening their days with stories. However, underlying his personality was a deeply caring individual who always put others' needs before his own. Whether it was offering a helping hand or being a supportive listener, Lawrence's kindness touched the lives of many, especially the young people that hung around with his children who called him Pops.


Lawrence's family meant the world to him he leaves behind his four children: Lawrence Lee Iler (Jane Wilson) of Chesaning, MI; Lynn (Alan) Ferrier of Lake Odessa, MI; Jonathan (Renee) Iler of Lachine, MI; Jan (Kelly) Iler of Hadley, MI; along with 10 grandchildren and 13 great-grandchildren who brought immense joy into his life. His memory will be cherished by his sister Nita (Rod) Gaultier, as well as several nieces and nephews. He was preceded in death by his loving wife Anne, a brother, Harry Iler, two sisters, Roberta Muzyl and Bonnie Iler.


A man of many talents and endless love for his family, Lawrence's legacy will live on through the stories he shared and the kindness he spread to all those around him. The services to honor and celebrate Lawrence's life will be held at the A.E. Ross Funeral Home in Alpena on July 12th with visitation starting at 10:00 AM followed by the funeral service at 11:00 AM.
