Fred Louis Skiba 77 of Presque Isle (The Ultimate Outdoorsman and #1 Dad) went home to be with the Lord on Tuesday, January 3, 2023 with his two sons by his side at home with the help of Hospice of Michigan after a long and courageous battle with cancer.
He was born December 25, 1945 in Alpena to the late Louis and Louise (Fradette) Skiba. He was a miracle, the first baby in Alpena to survive a blood transfusion at birth. He graduated from Alpena Catholic Central High School in 1964. On July 2, 1966 he married the late Sharon Whitney (died in 1993 in a car accident) at St. Anne Catholic Church of All Saints Parish in Alpena. He was drafted into the Vietnam War where he served parts of 1967-1968 as a field communications specialist in the United States Army. He retired from Buick City in Flint, Michigan where he worked for 34 years. He enjoyed playing baseball, football, basketball and loved teaching his two sons everything he knew about hunting, fishing and life. He was a wonderful gardener and also enjoyed the occasional trip to the casino.
He is survived by his two sons, Scott of Presque Isle, and Keith (Lorena) of St. Johns Michigan, sisters Carol Skiba, and Sylvia Owens of Alpena, Ex-Wife Janene Skiba, and step daughter, Mercedes (Jay) Lovett, and 4 children of Saginaw.
He wanted to share his favorite prayer with everyone. The wings of faith: May the wings of faith uphold you when your cross is hard to bear as temptations surround you and no one seems to care. May the wings of faith surround you and shield you from pain when sorrows overcome you and teardrops fall like rain. May you know that he is with you confirm that he is there! May the valley of the shadow provide angels unaware. May the wings of faith uphold you when your cross is too hard to bear.
