Eugene Leslie Witt, lovingly known as Gene, embarked on his final journey on May 24, 2025, at the MyMichigan Health Center-Alpena, leaving behind a legacy of kindness and a profound love for family and friends. Born on July 16, 1926, in the charming town of Alpena, Michigan, Gene was the cherished son of Edward and Ella (Lemke) Witt, who preceded him in death along with his infant brother, Harley.
A proud veteran, Gene served his country honorably in the United States Army during World War II. His heart held a deep-seated pride not only for his service but also for his community, as he was a devoted member of the American Legion. This commitment to his peers and fellow citizens showcased Gene's unwavering spirit and dedication to the values of service and camaraderie.
On June 5, 1991, Gene married the love of his life, Dolores Sytek, at St. Matthews Lutheran Church. Their nearly 34 years of marriage were filled with love, laughter, and a shared passion for life that inspired all who knew them. Together, they built a tapestry of cherished memories, cultivating a family that exemplified the warmth of unity and affection.
Gene had a joy for life that extended beyond familial bonds. He found tranquility in planting flowers and tending to his beloved garden. Farming was not just a hobby but a nostalgic connection to the land he cherished, a reflection of his hardworking nature and nurturing heart. He relished the simple pleasure of visiting with neighbors and friends, always bringing his contagious smile and warm demeanor, making everyone feel welcomed and valued.
Those left to carry on his legacy include his beloved wife, Dolores, their daughters, Beverly Brandenburg and Gloria Woloszyk, and the joy of his life, his grandchildren, Eugene and Glenn Woloszyk. He is also survived by many cousins who remember him fondly and will hold his memory close to their hearts.
A kind, caring, and loving husband, father, grandfather, uncle, and friend, Gene will be deeply missed by all whose lives he touched. His spirit, woven into the very fabric of those around him, will continue to flourish in the love shared with family and friends.
Friends and family are invited to gather for a visitation at A.E. Ross Funeral Home on May 30, 2025, from 11:00 AM to 1:00 PM, followed by the funeral service at 1:00 PM. Gene will then be laid to rest in a solemn interment at Evergreen Cemetery at 2:15 PM. As we bid farewell to an extraordinary man, we celebrate a life well-lived, a heart well-loved, and a spirit that remains ever-present in our memories.
