Donald 'Don' J. Wisniewski

Donald J. Wisniewski, age 81, of Alpena, passed away peacefully on Sunday, December 19, 2021, at Besser Senior Living Community. Donald was born on May 18, 1940 to the late Casimer and Stephanie (Domiencki) Wisniewski in Alpena. Don graduated from Catholic Central High School and later Michigan State University with a bachelor's degree in education.  He married Mary Kathleen ' Kathy' Marciniak on May 9, 1959. 

     Donald was a sixth grade teacher at Ella White Elementary for many years and fondly looked back on his time teaching.  He and his wife later owned and operated Greenview Nursing Home. Don enjoyed hunting, gardening, fishing and spending time at camp.  He also played in men's softball and volleyball leagues for many years.

     As a lifelong resident of Alpena, Don had many friends and loved having the guys out to the camp he built for hunting season, wild game dinners and volleyball parties.  He also played in a weekly euchre club for many years.  Don truly loved spending time with family and always looked forward to when the family would gather for summer vacations and holidays.

     Surviving are his beloved wife of 62 years, Kathy, daughters; Debi (Ray) Rybicki, Prudy (Jim) Blue, Anne (Brian) MacArthur, and Krystn Wallace, grandchildren; Brian (Tiffany) Cohen, Jeffrey Cohen, Kirk MacArthur and Mitchell (Elizabeth) MacArthur, and great- grandchildren; Noah, Emily and Jordan Cohen.  He is also survived by brother, Norbert Wisniewski, brother-in-law, Ken (Karen) Marciniak, several nieces, nephews, great nieces and great nephews. He was preceded in death by siblings; Leona Wisniewski, Esther (Myron) Olsen, Robert (Sandy) Wisniewski, Jeanette Wisniewski and Barbara (Don) Sleeper.

     Donald has been taken from Karpus-Hunter Funeral Home for cremation.  A Memorial Service will be held at the funeral home on December 27, 2021 with visitation beginning at 12:00 p.m. and the service starting at 2:00 p.m.  Final resting place for Donald will be at Holy Cross Cemetery.  Memorials may be made in Don's name to Hospice of Michigan, 145 N.
